Texas House Speaker Elected
Updated on Wednesday, Feb 12, 2025

Congratulations to Representative Dustin Burrows in his election as Speaker of the Texas House! He won on the second ballot with 85 votes. It takes 76 votes in the Texas House to be elected as the speaker. I encourage anyone interested in knowing more why Rep. Dustin Burrows  is the right person for this position to listen to the nominating speeches on the Texas House website, research and follow the money behind the various candidates, and dig into the past Legislative records of each of the candidates. There are so called "conservative" organizations in Texas, some funded by west Texas billionaires that put a lot of money into painting a false picture of both Republican Speaker of the House candidates, much like our current State Representative did in his race against Representative Stephanie Klick this past year. More will come out why these organizations are misleading people with cherry picked information to create a narrative that is largely propaganda for an agenda that is well meaning, but misguided in various ways. For a more balanced article on the speakers race, consider reading The Texas Voice, or this article from Shelby Williams.
