Texas House Committees Appointed

After viewing the makeup of the Texas House Committees, I think that a lot of careful thought has yielded a good result for the basis of this Legislative session. Here are the key takeaways: 

No Minority Chairmen of Standing Committees: All committee chairmanships are held by members of the majority party.
Some Subcommittees Chaired by Minority Party: Of the newly created 12 subcommittees, 6 of them are chaired by members of the minority party, but of all of them include a partisan disposition that favors the majority party.
Minority Vice-Chairmen: All committees have vice-chairmen from the minority party.
Majority Dominance in All Committees: All standing committees and subcommittees are composed of a majority from the majority party.

All Texans so interested should have a voice in their Texas House through their Representative, but the majority in any group has a right to prevail according to our nations practices. Each Representative cannot possibly represent their entire constituency views since their constituency will have various views on any given issue. When a politician says that they are representing the views of their constituents, they are blowing smoke. No, they are simply following their conscience if they are a person of integrity, otherwise their conscience is seared and they are selling out to the highest bidder for their vote - a bad representative in my opinion.

So the House is an aggregate representative of the voting citizens of Texas - all of the Representatives deserve respect and a chance to voice their opinion on any given issue. Playing power games and name calling your opponents only shows what is really in a persons heart - a belief that one has the right to censor and disrespect those whom they disagree with. While it is right to stand up for what is true and right, and Christians have a responsibility to do that, we do not have the right to trample on others rights to be heard, even if we believe they are wrong in their beliefs about God and our Constitution.

I believe the House structure does well to support those principles that are the basis of a representative constitutional government such as ours here in Texas. Some so called conservative organizations seem to think that their voices are the only ones that should be present in the Texas House; everyone else is a "snake", even those of their own party that disagree with them on certain Legislative issues. That is what I call tyranny in the making, whether it is garbed in Christian appeals or not. Hearts are not moved by laws, however good they may be, but they are moved through relationships and truth that is embraced. The Speaker of the Texas House seems to understand this based on the deliberate pairings within the committee. Kudos to Rep. Burrows and blessings to his family! May the wisdom that his team is demonstrating this Legislative session be effective for governing Texas according to God's ways and our Constitution.
