Third Special Session for Texas Legislature

The third special session of the Texas Legislature called by Governor Abbott started on Monday, Sep 20, 2021 and has now adjourned sine die. This session focused on redistricting in Texas, along with several other priorities requested by Governor Abbott. Every 10 years the U.S. Constitution calls for a re-apportionment of 435 U.S. House members among the 50 states in America. The results of the 2020 census is that several states gained additional Congress positions, and some states lost some. Texas gained 2 U.S. House seats, so we will now have 38 Congress districts in Texas once members are elected in the Nov 2022 General Election. Candidates are beginning to emerge at Republican meetings throughout the D/FW Metroplex. I have been able to meet some of them, and will have more information on this website as we get closer to the 2022 Republican Primary in the Spring. The date of that Primary is subject to when the Texas redistricting is finalized, so no one really knows when the Primary will be at this time. I will post information here on the website when that is known.

Redistricting is, by nature, a political process. For those who want to try their hand at drawing district lines, check out districtr.org, which is one of several websites where you can produce a redistricting plan and share it with our Legislators. The maps for the U.S. House (Congressional districts, the Texas Senate and House maps and the State Board of Education maps are now on Governor Abbot's desk for his signature. You can view the links to the maps on the Texas Legislature Online website here. As it now stands, our precinct will remain in the current districts we have voted in for the last 10 years.
